PEI has one of the highest smoking rates in the country and smoking is the leading cause of most lung-related health issues. At the PEI Lung Association (PEILA), we are committed to helping Islanders breathe easier by taking a proactive approach to lung health.
We understand that with the COVID-19 pandemic, these are unprecedent times and Islanders need us more than ever before. They need us now.
In response to this need, the PEILA has developed the “Smoke-Free Now” challenge in partnership with the Lung Association of Nova Scotia who over the last 5 years, have successfully helped over 1000 smokers to quit. We have one key message for Island smokers: “the time to quit smoking is now.” Given that smoking effects your chances for complications from COVID-19, the PEI Lung Association is here for you during these difficult times. We are offering an opportunity for 50 Island smokers to challenge themselves to become smoke-free for four weeks: from May 8 until June 5, 2020. Participants will receive weekly support emails.
Beginning at noon (12 p.m. AST) on May 8th, participants will give up smoking for four weeks.
When the challenge period ends at noon on June 5th and you have remained completely smoke-free (not even one puff) for 4 weeks, we will celebrate your achievement with a gift from our family to yours.
We will be giving out $20 worth of lobsters (or equivalent amount in the form of a gift card).
We understand that quitting smoking is hard, the PEILA will stay in touch through weekly emails and Facebook posts to encourage you along the way. We have also assembled a wealth of supporting information available on the “Resources” page of this website.
